Urban Dictionary is a crowd-sourced online dictionary of slang or cultural words and phrases. Having English as my second language, Urban Dictionary is the irreplaceable tool that helps me learn about what real-life is like in a different country and what’s trending among different groups. I want to build a positive, friendly, and compelling brand image for Urban Dictionary. This special dictionary is to be the new babel that helps people stay in the loop, build connections with each other and define their own world.
I used the “u” of “urban” to be a container for different contents. As a dictionary, it should be something that fills in the blanks and carries different meanings to diverse audiences. Also, the visual system is based on a grid consisting of lines and circles because language is originally something that has a lot of rules. But today, people around the world keep exploring and using the words in very creative ways. That’s the key spirit of Urban Dictionary.

In addition to the brand posters, three new features of Urban Dictionary are “Slang Definition”, “Initial Archive” and “Slang Converter”, which I express through content posters to show the fun of slang.

The Slang Definition feature gathers the most interesting words and composes images, keywords, emojis or whatever visuals that are related to introduce them in a dynamic and exciting way.

It’s interesting to see how different slang in different languages share similar meanings.
As our vision is to go global and connect people, we want to introduce this series where we gather those slang that are connected in meanings from different cultures.
